Getting Rid of Cold Symptoms

By October 3, 2012Blog

Are you concerned about cold season this year? As a parent, you try to do what you can to keep your kids healthy. But sometimes when they’re in school, you can’t control what germs they come in contact with. Therefore, in order to fight off potential cold symptoms, you need to prepare effectively.

Colds generally last between 1 and 2 weeks and produce a variety of symptoms. These can include a runny nose, coughing, sore throat, fever, and headaches. If you feel yourself or child has medical issues other than the common cold, you should go to the doctor immediately. If the signs seem relatively mild, although it may take a while to get better from this sickness, there are ways to improve the symptoms.

At the first sign of a cold, drink tea or another herbal remedy to clear the sinuses. This will allow you to breathe easier. You can also go to your local pharmacy and purchase over-the-counter medication. It is important to consult with your health care provider before doing so. Next, try drinking lots of orange juice or take vitamin C. These remedies will help to boost your immune system, helping your body fight the infection. You can also try increasing your water intake. If you feel weak or drowsy, stay home from work or school so you can receive ample rest, giving yourself time to relax and heal. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, wash your hands constantly. This will prevent germs from spreading in your home and fight off the cold too.
